Song #35

Grandpa's Star

1)
One fine evening, Frieda came home from Sunday School
Sitting down softly and sweetly at Grandpa's side
She had learned how wise men found the manger
To praise the Lamb of God, the children's friend

2)
She learned of how a star led them to that place
And wished that she could be a guiding light as well
And told her grandfather of this
What she had learned at school

3)
When she had told him all that she had heard and read
She felt her heart at ease, and said to him at last
"Like those ancient ones, you too, are old and wise
Do you too, offer praise to the friend of children?"

4)
Those simple words for him well enough
Deep within his heart, from such innocence
When then one night he made his last farewell
His witness clear, his voice was heard to say

5)
With joyful tears now flowing, and faithful heart now full
He looked at little Frieda, and said with earnest voice
"O little child, let grandfather now take your hand
For you are his guiding star, to heaven's golden shore"

6)
If you have heard my story, I tell you dearest child
As you traverse the dark sinful paths
"Have you a bright star guiding?", I would ask
"And will you give your heart today unto that faithful guide?"
